Bishop Curtis Eugene Edmonds, Sr. was born May 22, 1949 to the late Thornton Otis Edmonds and Lillie Mae Maxwell Edmonds. He is a native and resident of Portsmouth, Virginia. He is married to his high school sweetheart, Evelyn Lewis Edmonds, who is now a retired English teacher from the Portsmouth Public School System. He is the father of two sons, Curtis E. Edmonds, Jr. and Dr. Kelton Roderick Edmonds. God has blessed him with two multi-talented grandchildren: Curtis Kelton Edmonds and Kenedy Nicole Edmonds. After graduating from I.C. Norcom High School in 1967, Bishop Edmonds served four years in the U.S. Air Force, with a tour of duty in Vietnam. Soon after being honorably discharged from the Air Force, he was employed by the Norfolk Naval Shipyard and retired as an industrial engineer technician in 1993.
Bishop Edmonds has been blessed to earn the following degrees: Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology from Norfolk State University (1976), Master of Divinity Degree from Virginia Union University School of Theology, Richmond, Virginia (1994), and Doctorate of Ministry Degree from United Theological Seminary, Dayton, Ohio (1999). He has done additional studies at Boston University School of Theology. He has traveled extensively and has preached in Israel, Greece, Egypt, and Turkey.
Bishop Edmonds is and has been the pastor, teacher, spiritual leader, and friend here at Saint Mark for eighteen years. On September 29, 2007, he was elevated and consecrated to the office of Bishop of Saint Mark Missionary Baptist Church.
