On Wednesday, April 20, 2022, Mr. Michael “Radar” Vann was called to his eternal resting place. Michael was born November 16, 1953, to the late Mr. Otis E. Vann and Mrs. Sarah I. Vann in Portsmouth, VA. He was educated in the Portsmouth Public School System and attended I. C. Norcom High School where he received his high school diploma (Class of 1974). In his early career, he worked at General Electric (GE) for 5 years and later enlisted into the United States Air Force where he served 4 years active duty. From 1979-1980, he started his career at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY) and enlisted into the National Guard of Virginia, Reserve Airforce where he served 7 years. In 2016, Michael retired from NNSY serving 37 years as an Outside Machinist and Nuclear Planner.

Michael was a faithful member of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a member of the Tribe of Benjamin, the Veterans Ministry, the Mime Ministry, and St Mark Christian Academy Mascot.

He is survived by two daughters: C. Michelle Vann (Derick) of Portsmouth, VA and Liquita James (Timothy) of Virginia Beach, VA. Four grandsons: Wallace Vann (Hannah), Dontez Vann, Donald E. Newsome, Jr., & Timothy James, Jr., and One Granddaughter: Aaliyah James; 2 great-grandsons: Davian Vann & Kingston Johnson; 10 Bonus grandchildren: Chinita Booth, Chris Arrington, Ashlee Mitchell, Alonte Booth, Deshara Harris, Shaniece Stephens, Tykerra Hamlin, Dureka Elliott, Diamond Battle, & Darius Smith and 14 bonus great grandchildren. He is also survived by Ex-Wife Brenda Dunn (Frankie) of Portsmouth, VA, and Fiancé: Karen Dawson of Chesapeake, VA; one special grandson, Ahmir Johnson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Michael was predeceased by wife, Joyce Vann; one sister, Gloria Williams and 3 brothers: Calvin Vann, Alvin Vann, and Wilbert Lee Vann, Sr. (Hazel L. Vann); one nephew, Wilbert Lee Vann, Jr., and one uncle, Willie Vann, Jr.
